manage hundreds of different applications for their customers in Sweden. Always
looking for enhancements of their services, the concept of Application Mining
was braught to their attention in 2001. After
studying the Application Mining Tool market, Sogeti choosed to invest in ResourceMiner.
The most important needs were that the tool should be able to manage mixed
computer languages and environments with a common user
interface, be easy to extend with new languages and be harmonised with
effective work methods. Introducing
new tools and work processes for system developers takes time, some adopt the
new processes and even develop them further, other are more conservative. Time
savings is not that easy to measure, Sogeti have
worked with estimations on old work processes compared to the measured outcome
from the new work processes. For
Error- and Change Analysis Sogeti report time savings
up to 75%, the savings depends on a number of parameters and will be greater
(in hours) on larger errands. Unexpected errors because of changes has clearly
dropped when Impact Analysis has become a routine task. As a
consultant company Sogeti have developed its business
by offering new services based on Application Mining. The new services have
given Sogeti more assignments, some of them with new
customers. One
assignment was to help a customer to understand an unknown system, the customer
reported it was 10 - 25% easier with ResorceMiner,
several assignments were about harvesting business rules from existing
applications to be replaced. These assignments have been accomplished with a
minimal allocation of customer key resources, which they appreciated. Today ResourceMiner has been used for more than 30 customers on
more than 30 million lines of source code spanning over 30 computer languages. Some
of the largest IT departments in Sweden use ResourceMiner
on daily basis, provided by Sogeti. |
